Nobody is searching for your company name
Ranking first for your own name proves nothing. The people worth finding do not know you exist yet, and they are typing something else.
The search you already win
Type your company name into Google. You are probably first. This feels like proof that the site is working, and it is proof of nothing at all: the only people typing your name are people who already know it. They were coming anyway.
The visitor worth having does not know you exist. They are typing the problem, not the solution, and almost never the brand.
What they actually type
- The problem, in their own words, not the industry's
- The place, because most trades are local and people know it
- The price, because they want to know before they call
- The comparison, when they are near the end of deciding
Four different people at four different distances from buying. A single page cannot answer all of them, which is why a site with one page about what you do ranks for one thing and a site with pages about each real question ranks for several.
The part nobody enjoys
The answer is writing. Not keyword stuffing, not a plugin, not a monthly retainer that produces a dashboard: sentences that answer a question somebody is actually asking, published where a search engine can find them.
If a page would not be worth reading with the search engine switched off, it will not rank for long with it switched on.
That is slower than buying ads and it does not stop working when the budget does. Both have their place. Only one of them is an asset at the end of the year.
